A REFLECTION ON THE DANCE OF FALLING LEAVES
When I slipped out the garage door to take my morning walk, the first words that came out of my mouth were, “Thank you, Lord.” I was aware that even on a gray day it is beautiful when you have a thankful heart and are grateful to be alive! God is good all the time.
Walking past the row of Bradford Pear trees, I noticed they were still displaying a rich fall color palette. I saw and heard the leaves on one particular tree gently rustling in the breeze. I thought it strange that none of the other trees were moving like that in the breeze. In fact it made me turn around and stare at this tree for a few moments. A smile came to my face as I realized the Lord was getting my attention. He was waving at me through the dancing leaves and whispering to me through the wind of His breath.
Continuing down the road, I prayed out loud in the Holy Spirit all the way around my neighborhood. The Lord brought some people to mind and I prayed for them. I was reflecting on the goodness of God and my heart was so full of gratitude and joy.
At about midway on my walk I came to a place in the road where the wind was picking up. I looked up and saw some leaves falling to the ground. I stopped for a few minutes just to watch this intriguing dance of falling leaves. They were uniquely different. Some would spiral around and around until they hit the ground. Others would gently waft back and forth in their descent. Still others actually looked like bird wings flitting in the breeze. It was amazing to see such a variety of movement. It caused me to marvel at the infinite handiwork of my God.
It struck me that even the leaves worship God in their magnificent color and dance. Their descent marks the end of a season. I thought about how even the leaves are carried on the wind of God’s love. How much more will He carry us in His loving arms through all the seasons of our lives? He will hold us close until we step out of our earth suits and into the glory of His presence forevermore where we will be totally free at last! Hallelujah and amen!
Prayer Power
Heavenly Father and Creator of all, I give you thanks and glory for your magnificent creation both great and small. No detail escapes your eye, hand, and heart. May I always be mindful that as marvelous as Your handiwork is, You are greater still and I exalt you above all else, in Jesus name. Amen
