DON’T BURY YOUR TREASURE LIKE THE SQUIRRELS

30 September 2009 2 Comments

It is so meaningful to me when the Lord literally shows me deep spiritual truths through natural experiences. He often instructs me through nature. This morning’s walk uncovered an amusing example.

The sky was clear blue and the country air was crisp. There were a great number of squirrels scampering about. They were everywhere. Two  squirrels separately scurried  across my path.

Each one was carrying an acorn in their clutches. It tickled me how they were so focused on burying their treasure for a later time. When they completed their task  they darted away. I smiled as I wondered how on earth do they remember where they hide their booty.

It was when I was watching these creatures stash away their goodies that the Holy Spirit made clear a stark contrast.  He showed me how His squirrels find, gather, then bury their treasures in the ground so they can retrieve them later.

He made me see that He has priceless hidden treasure in each of His human beings but it is not meant to stay buried. He wants us to share our treasure with others so they may become blessed.

God declares in 2 Corinthians 4:7 – However, we possess this precious treasure (the divine light of the  Gospel) in (frail human) vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves.

Mathew 5:14-16 says – You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father who is in heaven.

God revealed to me that WE ARE THE WEALTH TRANSFER. IT’S GOING TO COME  TO AND THROUGH US. Followers of Jesus can no longer afford to hide or hoard the treasure of the light and life of Christ within themselves.  The world is desperate for it .

God wants His people to freely give with wild abandon their matchless treasure so He can multiply it and transfer the wealth for His Kingdom purposes and glory.

I am reminded of a favorite  quote by Chief Seattle:

“HUMANKIND HAS NOT WOVEN THE WEB OF LIFE. WE ARE BUT ONE THREAD WITHIN IT. WHATEVER WE DO TO THE WEB, WE DO TO OURSELVES. ALL THINGS ARE BOUND TOGETHER. ALL THINGS CONNECT”.

I see Web 2.0 as a perfect tool to get our treasure out to the world exponentially! We have in our very hands the power to positively influence and transform  the web of life for God’s glory! We can either be spectators or  participators. Which will you choose?

My prayer for you

Father God, I pray that you stir up the passion in  people’s hearts to share their treasure with others. Open the eyes of their understanding so they can see that the greatest gift they have to offer is Christ living in them, the hope of glory. Amen.

This sentence really resonated with me Nancy! I love the imagery of wild abandon! Yes, how can we have any other attitude considering the magnitude of the gift!

    Blessings,

    Hi Mary,
It’s good to be sisters in the Lord. Just think what God can accomplish through us when the treasure in me comes close to the treasure in you. It creates an explosion of creative energy and light. Imagine how bright this world would be if we all got on the same page of His Word!

    Blessings my friend,
    Nancy
